DMSI Cares: Book Reading at Work

September is National Literacy Month!

Literacy means more than just the ability to read. It also means the ability to process and solve problems, making it a crucial skill set for anyone in today’s modern world.

DMSI International believes in ensuring that all employees have access to books they can read at work or home, and so we set up a space in our pantry room for the books donated by the entire DMSI team. Employees are encouraged to grab a book to take home and read.

We also believe that reading helps us grow as people and improve our social, emotional, and mental health. By fostering this culture of reading at DMSI International, we hope to empower our team members with tools for success in all aspects of their lives.

And that’s why the importance of improving adult literacy needs our attention — because it provides people the opportunity to thrive.

Their success is everyone’s success!

The Young Professional Group Summit: Align with Purpose

Some of our DMSI young professionals attended The Young Professional Group Summit: Align with Purpose at The Carlisle Inn recently. The summit was informative and inspirational, and it gave the attendees an opportunity to learn about their goals in life as well as how they can shift their focus on them despite the obstacles that may come along the way. The speakers at the summit were also interesting, and they reminded them of their responsibilities to help each other grow.

The summit provided the attendees with lots of insights that will help them better understand why some people succeed while others fail at achieving their goals. Moreover, it also taught them how to stay motivated by overcoming fears along the way in order to develop and grow.

Shumaker Chamber University: Listening’s Role in Effective Leadership

By Evan Samson, Integrated Marketing Communications Officer

Yesterday, I and some of my DMSI International colleagues (Iylin FlockMenchie CalesaAda Joy Agovida, and Patrick Alexander) attended The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce’s seminar “Shumaker Chamber University: Listening’s Role in Effective Leadership” which presented by Dawn Y. Graber.

After attending the seminar, I was able to identify what it means to listen effectively; it was a great and insightful experience. Dawn was very knowledgeable and engaging.

The context of the conversation, the concept that is being discussed, and the speaker’s body language are all important aspects of listening. You must be able to listen effectively to understand what’s being said and how best to respond.

During our small group sessions, we used case studies illustrating the importance effective listening can make in building a healthy culture of engaged employees resulting in greater success. This showed us how important it is for leaders to listen well to build healthy cultures where employees feel safe enough to speak up about their ideas or any problems they’re experiencing.

I learned that it’s important for me to broaden my listening skills so that I can adapt better and improve my relationships with others.

From Left: Richmond Cua (DMSI Staff), Christine Cua (Quality Assurance), Ada Joy Agovida (Logistics Manager), Kheen Malait (Shipping/Receiving Supervisor), Jay-r Ajit (Asst. Production Leader), and Kelley Hammond (Materials Analyst) were just a few of the lucky participants to have witnessed the success of the recently concluded Hybrid Winter Conference of BICSI in Orlando, Florida last February 1, 2022.

The trade show consisted of exhibitors and professionals with diverse backgrounds in the field of ICT, ensuring that guests were provided with essential information to learn about structured cabling systems and those products that relate to fiber optics.

Ada and Kelley, in particular, were ecstatic to have experienced this event in person as both had the chance to have face-to-face interaction with some of the vendors, they were only previously in contact virtually but may still continue to work with imminently.
